Having your block paving sealed is stage three of the block paving maintenance process.

The three step block paving cleaning and sealing process consists of:
  • Block paving is cleaned with a rotary cleaning machine which applies water at a pressure of 3000psi.
  • Kiln dried or silica sand (block paving sand) is brushed lightly over the block paviers and drops down between the blocks. It is important to ensure that the block paving is thoroughly dried out from washing prior to the 'brushing in' of the kiln dried block paving sand.
  • Block paving is then sealed with either a matt or gloss block paving sealant. Again, it is vital to ensure that there is no moisture in either the blocks or the air. Ideally a warm, sunny day is ideal for applying block paving sealant. Applying block paving sealant in damp or wet weather, or even cold weather will jeopardise the success of the block paving sealing process.

Driveway Blitz Block Paving Sealing Cover These Local Leyland Areas Areas

The Block Paving Sealing Process

The first stage when you need to seal any block paving is to ensure that the area is cleaned thoroughly using a high power pressure washer. You might think that this is a straightforward job which can be accomplished with a shop bought pressure washing machine, however, you will find that in most cases, using a domestic pressuring washing machine will not create a smooth and even finish to your block paving when cleaned. You will find that there is a 'zebra' type of stripe through the block paved area.

When cleaned with commercial high pressure power washing equipment, a petrol driven engine and high speed turbo washing guns, along with rotating flat surface floor cleaner, ensures that the maximum area coverage is achieved with each application of water.

Once the block paved area is cleaned, prior to resealing you will need to ensure that the sand which will undoubtedly have come out from between the blocks, is replaced. There will be some drying time required between washing your block paving and resanding as the sand is a very light type of sand called 'silica sand', known as the 'block paving sand'. It's fine nature means that it easily clumps if in contact with water and therefore a completely dry surface on the block paving is needed prior to lightly brushing in the block paving sand.

The next stage of sealing block paving comes when the sanding and cleaning has been completed. Block paving sealant must only be applied when the temperature is warm and without any dampness whatsoever. Sealant should be applied professionally to ensure a completely even seal across the block paviers and to the edge of the block paved area. The block paving sealant acts as a film which goes completely across the paving. It is very easy to apply block paving sealant badly and could be very costly if carried out wrong.

Our Driveway Blitz driveway sealing, block paving sealing and imprinted concrete sealing services are carried out by professional block paving cleaning and driveway sealing operatives with many years experience in the industry.

Block paving sealant can be applied as either a matt or gloss finish. Matt finish is almost a dullish look which looks quite natural and the gloss finish makes the block paving look almost as though it is wet.
